Our Bridge Building Garden Project is well underway at the Msgr. Pfeiffer Resource Center in Howard Beach! Participants from the Older Adult Center, NYFAC, and the Community Outreach Team have been hard at work preparing the space and upcycling pallets, tires, and pebbles to create a beautiful community garden. The project is blooming with creativity, learning, and laughter, and everyone is coming together once again to nurture our collaborative garden — and each other!

A special thank you to Atlantic Nursery in Freeport for their generous donation of soil, vegetables, and herbs to help get us started. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Debbie D. and Frank F. for their continued support and dedication to this wonderful endeavor.

These past weeks we fluttered into the fascinating world of butterflies, discovering fun facts like how butterflies can soar at speeds of up to and over 30 mph! Participants got hands-on by creating the butterfly life cycle out of pasta and designing colorful butterfly magnets for their refrigerators.

Did you know a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope? How perfect, because our day was filled with all the colors of the rainbow while learning about the benefits of “eating the rainbow” for a healthy lifestyle.

To top it all off, we whipped up delicious rainbow pancakes in the shapes of flowers and butterflies, complete with whipped cream and fresh fruit. A beautiful reminder that when communities of all ages and abilities come together, something truly magical grows.
