May 19, 2026 — The Office of Mission of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens (CCBQ) hosted “Faith in Action: Our Mission as the Body of Christ” on Saturday, May 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Christ the King High School, 68-02 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, NY. The event attracted participants, including agency volunteers, employees, members of the board of trustees, parish ministers and Catholic school teachers. The event promoted meaningful dialogue and cooperation within the Catholic community.
In a time of unprecedented hardship for migrants, those struggling with homelessness, at-risk youth, and underserved families, the “Faith in Action” event emphasized the Church’s commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable. Speakers and panelists aimed to deepen the understanding of Catholic social teaching, energize community engagement, and promote partnerships between parishes, schools, and apostolic groups.
Bishop Robert Brennan and Bishop Emeritus Nicholas DiMarzio stopped by to show support for the event and greet attendees.
Keynote Speaker Brian Corbin, Vice President of Catholic Charities USA, spoke about the importance of helping people grow closer through prayer, compassion, and acts of charity. Corbin encouraged attendees to stay deeply human in an age shaped by artificial intelligence and disconnection by living out mercy and service within the Church.
During the morning panel, experts reflected on the keynote message through the lenses of migration, affordable housing, and youth crises. The panel included Mario Russel, ED of Center for Migration Studies; Tim McManus EVP CCPOPDC; and Fr. James Kuroly, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. In the afternoon, the morning panelists moderated discussions that further explored the challenges facing our community and identified collaborative solutions.
The “Faith in Action” gathering reflected Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ ongoing commitment to strengthening the Church’s mission of service and solidarity. By bringing together clergy, educators, ministry leaders, and community members, the event fostered meaningful dialogue and inspired participants to respond to today’s challenges with compassion, collaboration, and faith in action.
