A Legacy of Social Services for Brooklyn and Queens

Making a gift to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens through your will is a powerful way to make a difference.  Your bequest helps ensure that our social services—services that are vital to those among us who are poor, hungry, elderly, isolated, and disabled—will be there when they are needed. Making a bequest from a will or a living trust is very simple.  You do not have to rewrite your will or trust documents.  You simply add an amendment, called a codicil, to your will or trust documents.  For your convenience, we have provided some language that your attorney may review: “I give, devise and bequeath to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, the sum of _______ dollars ($_____) for the benefit of its general support (or specify the specific program you wish to support).” Instead of naming a specific amount, you may state a percentage of your estate or a percentage of the remainder of the estate after you have provided for your heirs. If you have questions or would like further assistance, please contact Lucy Garrido-Mota, Senior Vice President, at Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, 191 Joralemon Street, 12th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201, email at lucy.gmota@ccbq.org or telephone at 718-722-6211.

Benefits You and Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens

Your gift of stock can help all those who receive aid through Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens – and bring tax benefits to you and your family. Contributions of appreciated securities held for more than a year are generally deductible at current market value, regardless of what you paid for them.  Additionally, capital gains tax is avoided through charitable gifts. If you make a gift of stock, won’t you let us know? While Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens gratefully accepts all gifts, including anonymous ones, it is very important for us to know the identity of the donors of all securities gifts in order to give prompt and accurate credit for gifts received. Particularly in the case of an electronic transfer, it is often very difficult to obtain this information after the transaction is processed. Also, as soon as a securities gift is received and matched to the donor, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens sends an acknowledgment stating the nature of the gift, the gift valuation date and the gift valuation amount for tax purposes. To properly process your gift and acknowledge your generosity, please contact Lucy Garrido-Mota, Senior Vice President, at Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, 191 Joralemon Street, 12th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201, email at lucy.gmota@ccbq.org or telephone at 718-722-6211.
