Behavior Addiction Workshop at P.S. 280

Parents attending the behavior addiction workshop

The CCBQ Community Outreach Health and Wellness team recently visited P.S. 280 in Jackson Heights to speak with parents about addictive behaviors, triggers, and healthy coping strategies. They hosted a Behavior Addiction Workshop to provide valuable information and support to the community. It was clear that the event addressed essential topics that matter to families.

Parents were highly engaged, with one sharing an important reminder: children model what they see. If we limit screen time for them, we should do the same as adults. Discussions like this are a key part of the Workshop, encouraging families to reflect on healthy habits.

We also discussed how increased screen time is impacting young children’s mental wellbeing and cognitive development, highlighting the need for more balance with outdoor and real-world activities. This message, highlighted during the Behavior Addiction Workshop, resonated with parents.

We ended with a healthy snack: non-fat Greek yogurt, sliced almonds, low-sugar raspberry jam, frozen berries, and bananas! Attending a Behavior Addiction Workshop can make these conversations about holistic wellness accessible to all families.
