Thirteen Montessori Trained Teachers Graduate This Year
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ Caritas Montessori Teacher Training Program proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary of graduating Montessori-trained educators on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025
Program students undergo an extensive year-long program covering all aspects of the Montessori Method. Students are given step-by-step instruction on material from Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, and Language, as well as Classroom Management, Philosophy, and Childhood Development.
Since the program’s inception in 1995, over 450 teachers have completed the Caritas Montessori Teacher Training Program. This year, the graduating class includes 13 newly trained Montessori educators, continuing a legacy of excellence in early childhood education.
“We are delighted to have you here today and to have you complete your training to carry on the Montessori program. Children need to experience the potential and creativity in them and not be afraid of manifesting their creativity,” said Reverend Monsignor Alfred LoPinto, President and Chief Executive Officer, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens and Affiliated Agencies. “It’s very important to have people in front of the classroom that believe in the children and are willing to help them develop the potential that’s within them.”
The 2025 graduation, held in Brooklyn Borough Hall, was attended by staff and the graduate’s family and friends. After the ceremony, graduates and guests enjoyed lunch and dessert together to celebrate their accomplishments.
The program maintains strong retention, with approximately 85% of trained teachers remaining employed within Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens Early Childhood Development Centers. Fifteen percent of graduates transition into other educational environments, such as the New York City Department of Education, extending the program’s influence into broader early childhood settings.
Caritas is an approved training program through the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS). The program offers 24 recommended college credits accepted by over 1,500 cooperating colleges and universities nationwide, including 150 institutions in New York State.
To ensure students get the most accessible and high-quality Montessori teacher training, the program launched a comprehensive modernization initiative in 2021. The modernization included integrating a robust Learning Management System, professional educational videos, interactive modules, new leadership, and more. These enhancements ensure that Caritas remains at the forefront of Montessori education, blending Montessori philosophy with 21st-century teaching methodologies.
