Ocean Bay Community Services offers direct access to youth workforce services, public benefits, financial assistance, employment opportunities; offers on-site food pantry, and health and wellness workshops and events for the community.
Food Pantry Services
Location: 411 Beach 54th Street, Arverne, New York 11692
Emergency Food Pantry
1st and 3rd Thursday of every month; 12pm – 2pm.
Operates a “client choice” delivery system that allows all recipients to select food items of their choice. All of the non-perishable proteins, legumes, starches, and vegetables have low sodium and no sugar nutritional facts. We also do our best to order fresh produce at least twice a month to serve as an addition to increasing a family’s daily allowance of fruit and vegetable servings.
Commodity Food Supplemental Program (CSFP)
4th Thursday of every month; 10am-12pm.
Must be at least 60 years old in order to apply. All clients receive a box of non-perishable food including fruits, vegetables, proteins, and legumes. All food items are low in sodium, sugar free, and fat free. Must be registered in order to be eligible for participation.
Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Queens
A 6-week internship program for young adults ages 14-24 with placements in a variety of settings. Youth are selected by lottery, work 20-25 hours per week and are paid minimum wage. Staff facilitates an intensive job readiness orientation that focuses on professional identity, health and stress, financial literacy, higher education, and hosts guest speakers and resource tables. SYEP Applications are available March-April every year.
