NYPD Emerald Society and FDNY Family Transport Foundation Deliver 260 Donated Turkeys to CCBQ

The NYPD Emerald Society and FDNY Family Transport Foundation Pick Up 260 Donated Turkeys from Fairway Market and Deliver Them to Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2015) – With the help of volunteers and staff members, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens will distribute approximately 300 Thanksgiving meals to families and individuals in need this Thanksgiving holiday. Distribution began on Wednesday, November 18 at the community center in Downtown, Brooklyn. Volunteers from the NYPD Emerald Society picked up 130 turkeys and delivered them to Downtown Brooklyn. An additional 130 turkeys were picked up by volunteers from the FDNY Family Transport Foundation and delivered to Astoria, Queens.
The 12-14 lbs. turkeys were donated by Fairway Markets, Red Hook, Brooklyn. The additional 50 turkeys were donated by the Knights of Columbus of the Immaculate Conception parish in Astoria, N.Y.
In addition, some families were also given turkey dinner fixings, provided by the Catholic Charities Food Pantry Network, which included fresh potatoes, squash and corn, instant stuffing, gravy, corn and corn muffin mix.
CCBQ operates a network of 20 food pantries in Brooklyn and Queens providing food assistance to many families and individuals in need. Last year, our pantries helped distribute more than 1 million meals to over 115,000 people.
