Catholic Charities Hosts Health & Wellness Fair to Help Local Community Cope with COVID-19

Catholic Charities Community Health & Wellness Services Team recently hosted our Health & Wellness Event at St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Astoria, Queens. Over 180 guests were in attendance and were provided with resources and services on COVID-19 mask safety, testing, vaccine information, NY Project Hope, SNAP benefits, screenings and more! To end the event on a high note, guests were gifted health and wellness themed giveaways including, gift cards to a local supermarket, shampoo, dental kits and drawstring bags (kindly provided by Vision Zero). Our guests were grateful for the resources and services provided to them and are looking forward to our future fairs.
Since the pandemic began, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has witnessed a 1,000 percent increase in food requests and has provided much-needed food packages and services at 49 Catholic Charities parish-based food pantries. In total, the agency distributed over $3.4 million in food assistance in 2020. In addition, Catholic Charities witnessed a 37 percent increase in clients in 2020, and continued to deliver mental health counseling, housing services, family services and early childhood education.
