As Thanksgiving approaches, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens continues to exemplify the true spirit of the holiday by giving back to the community with a Thanksgiving turkey distribution. This year, the focus is also on the thanksgiving turkey distribution in 2024 to help even more families in need. To alleviate food insecurity in Brooklyn and Queens, Catholic Charities distributed 3,000 turkeys and fixings to families at the Church of the Holy Innocents in East Flatbush, Brooklyn; Our Lady of the Cenacle in Richmond Hills, Queens; and Our Lady of Sorrows in Corona, Queens.
Over the past three years, the organization has significantly ramped up its efforts to combat hunger and provide essential services to those in need, providing over 2 million meals at 60 parish-based food pantries in 2023 alone. Meanwhile, the ongoing thanksgiving turkey distribution in 2024 is set to reach even greater numbers with increased support from volunteers and donors.
We are grateful to Al and Maria Catanese, who donated turkeys again this year, continuing a nine-year tradition in honor of their parents. Notably, these ongoing acts of generosity will play a big role in the thanksgiving turkey distribution in 2024. Also donating turkeys and food assistance were EJ Electric, the NYC District Council of Carpenters, Steamfitters, Ace Endico, CareMax, Aetna Medicare Solutions, Greystone, and Univision Nueva York Contigo. With more partners joining, the thanksgiving turkey distribution in 2024 is expected to have an even greater impact on the Brooklyn and Queens communities.
