New Queens Resource Center Opens in Howard Beach

New Queens Resource Center Serves as a Pivotal Staging Point for Emergency Food Programs and Year-Round Health and Wellness Events

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens celebrated the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Msgr. Joseph Pfeiffer Resource Center located at 155-55 Cross Bay Boulevard in Howard Beach, Queens.

Located within the Peter J. Striano Senior Apartments, this center will serve as a pivotal staging point for Catholic Charities’ emergency food programs and year-round health and wellness events. With a spacious walk-in freezer and refrigerator, the Msgr. Joseph Pfeiffer Resource Center significantly expands Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ capacity to receive much needed food donations, overcoming previous limitations when accepting fresh food and coordinating deliveries with food pantries open and operating for service.

Staff and volunteers will also utilize the new center to receive, sort, bag and distribute other essential donated items like clothes and toiletries, ensuring they get into the hands that need them the most.

While currently not in an emergency, the Msgr. Joseph Pfeiffer Resource Center is also positioned to mobilize resources swiftly should the need arise, reinforcing Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens’ commitment to serving the community in times of crisis.

Since the pandemic, Catholic Charities continues to respond to the long-term needs of individuals and families impacted by the global health crisis as inflation and food costs are on the rise. Food insecure members of the community can also receive emergency assistance and help applying for benefits at the new center.

The resource center is named in honor of Msgr. Joseph Pfeiffer, former pastor of St. Helen Roman Catholic Church in Howard Beach and an advocate for the sick, hospitalized and less fortunate in his community.
