Volunteers also need for our Friendly Visiting Program for Seniors Living Alone:

Do you have an hour per week to brighten the life of an older adult? Southwest Queens Senior Services is seeking volunteers to visit homebound seniors.

Many of our seniors have outlived their spouses and their friends and are grateful to have the companionship of a member of our team. We carefully match each volunteer with an elder who has similar interests. Over time, meaningful relationships develop, which both parties find rewarding. Our Friendly Visiting volunteers tell us that, in the process, their lives have changed as well.Funded by NYC DFTA, the program is designed to provide support and companionship to these elderly on a regular basis. The program provides seniors with visits in their own homes; this helps them maintain social contact and integrates them more effectively in their community. Each senior is matched with a Friendly Volunteer who will visit once a week at a mutually agreeable time. Efforts are made to match seniors with volunteers who share similar interests. The volunteer visitor provides weekly support through visiting, sharing and other activities as identified by the senior.

The goals of the program are to improve the health and well-being of seniors who are homebound through regular visits to the client’s home to encourage active and independent living.  We serve the neighborhoods of:

Kew Gardens
St. Albans
Ozone Park
South Jamaica
South Ozone Park
Howard Beach
Richmond Hill
Hamilton Beach
