Early Childhood Services

Early Childhood Development Centers

Early Childhood Services at Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens offer comprehensive quality programs through Early Head Start and Head Start programs, child care centers and family day care, each designed to foster the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of preschoolers in a safe environment.

Our award-winning, fully-compliant daycare and Head Start centers conduct a family-oriented child development program for approximately 2,400 children each year, ensuring that they receive the best education possible for the best future possible.

Childcare Guided by the Montessori Approach

We use the Montessori approach to early childhood education because it best meets the needs of children from birth to age seven. To uphold our commitment to quality education, our Caritas Center provides Montessori training to our early childhood staff. In addition, Caritas also helps provide essential learning materials for more than 90 classrooms at our sites — materials such as number rods, sandpaper letters and much more.

Please support our vital work with a tax-deductible donation today.  We place the highest value on the stewardship of your gifts, with 91 cents of every dollar going directly into services for our neighbors in need.

Colin Newell Early Childhood Development Center is one of many programs sponsored by CCNS, Inc.  All programs provide quality services to young children and their families who are treated as partners in the early care and education process.  The environment in the centers and providers' homes is safe and warm.  Caring and competent staff and providers guide the children's learning by exposing them to a variety of both the child- and adult-initiated, developmentally appropriate activities that promote their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.  Adherence to the Federal Head Start Performance Standards, the Reauthorization Act, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Health (NYC DOH MH - Article 47:11) (the Agency that licenses Child Care Programs), the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the guiding principles of the Montessori Approach (curriculum selected and implemented) ensures that CCNS implements excellent early care and education programs. When the children leave to pursue higher levels of learning, they possess a solid foundation for continuous learning as a result of being well prepared by our programs. They are willing and "ready to learn" more to achieve lifetime success (the goal of every quality care and education program).

Children age 33 months to 5 years from low-income families.
