Seniors Stay Cool in the Pool
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens partnered with Astoria Pool and Community Board 1 to host the Annual Day of Swimming for Older Adults and Special Populations. The participants enjoyed their day as they cooled off from the heat in the pool. The senior aquatic team performed their version of Swan Lake. The ages of the participants ranged from the late 60’s to the early 90’s. Swimming is very beneficial for older adults as it increases their strength and their mobility. This allows the seniors to feel more independent and maintain a happy quality of life. Each year, Catholic Charities provides comprehensive services to 8,300 older adults at 16 neighborhood senior centers. For more information on our services for older adults, click here.
