Caring for our seniors is perhaps one of our greatest responsibilities.
Caring for our seniors is perhaps one of our greatest responsibilities. At Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, seniors like Carmen Polygach, a widow and resident of the Catholic Charities Sr. Lucian Apartments for Seniors in Bushwick, Brooklyn, found so much more than an affordable home. In 2017, Carmen’s son was violently attacked and fell into a coma for three weeks. With medical bills mounting, Carmen fell behind on her own personal finances. She turned to the Catholic Charities Social Service Coordinators onsite at Sr. Lucian Apartments. Catholic Charities helped her get back on her feet and she is immensely grateful for the way in which Catholic Charities helped her during her darkest days. With the support of neighbors like you, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens provides 4,330 units of affordable housing for seniors, families and the formerly homeless as well as access to comprehensive social services that can range from meal delivery to congregate programs.
Each day, thousands of New Yorkers must decide between paying rent and putting food on the table. For 120 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing solutions for New Yorkers in urgent need. Every day, Catholic Charities feeds the hungry through food pantry networks; serves the lonely and elderly with volunteer services and senior centers; and provides more than four thousand units of affordable housing for low-income seniors, families, and veterans with a deep commitment to alleviating poverty, Catholic Charities is changing lives and building communities through our 160 programs and services. But we can’t do it alone.
