Parish & Community Services

Our Parish and Community Services program helps support parish-based programs with training, support and financial assistance. The Office of Mission ensures that the agency remains connected to its Catholic mission of serving the most vulnerable. The Office offers training and resources for parish leaders and volunteers to engage in outreach to the elderly and homebound.

Bereavement Services

Our Bereavement Services offers parish-based bereavement support groups. The program coordinator makes referrals to appropriate resources, and is available for bereavement trainings and presentations. We also assist with burial arrangements for indigent Catholic Charities clients.

Community Programming Services

Our Community Programming Services offers events, expos, and ongoing programming throughout Brooklyn and Queens, including evenings and weekends, with a special focus on Catholic parishes. Programs include parenting groups ("Mommy & Me," "Grandmothers as Mothers Again," "Relatives as Parents Again" and "Parent Education & Awareness Program"), workforce development, and academic help for grades 4-12. In addition, Catholic Charities offers a Food Pantry Network and annual community events. Staff is multilingual.

Community Services Opportunity & Obligation Program

Our Community Services Opportunity & Obligation Program helps those who receive a judgement of community service by allowing them to serve their hours through a Catholic Charities program.  It also provides access for participants to our 160 programs and services.

Disabilities Advocacy Services and Deaf Ministry

Our Disabilities Coordinator meets with and makes referrals to appropriate resources for those with disabilities and their families.  The Coordinator is also available for disabilities presentations and American Sign Language translation, and coordinates the training and meetings of parish advocates for people with disabilities.

Parish and Community Relations

Charged with developing and fostering relations with parishes and the community for the Agency and its services, the Directors of Parish and Community Relations for both Brooklyn and Queens seek to understand the needs and issues that face our communities and to help find solutions.  Particular focus is given to the Diocesan deaneries as well as establishing relationships with our elected leaders.

Vincentian Outreach

The Vincentian Outreach Coordinator handles referrals for emergency financial needs and resources from parishes, especially those with active St. Vincent de Paul groups.

Witnesses of Mercy Parish Volunteer Outreach Program

Responding to Pope Francis’ call to be Witnesses of God’s Mercy to the marginalized, the Office of Mission also offers training and resources for parish leaders and volunteers to engage in outreach to the elderly and homebound through the Witnesses of Mercy Parish Volunteer Outreach Program.
