CCBQ Participates in Catholic Charities USA’s 2012 Annual Gathering
Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens recently participated in Catholic Charities USA’s 2012 Annual Gathering which was held in St. Louis, Missouri. This gathering serves a as celebration for all of the hard work Catholic Charities agencies have accomplished to reduce poverty and need throughout the nation, as well as an opportunity to strategize ways to further our efforts. The conference consisted of 40 workshops prepared by staff of different Catholic Charities and provided effective information and tips for others to take back to their region. Of these workshops, our own Nina Valmonte, Director of Parish and Community Outreach Services, along with Sara Suman, Brooklyn West Community Project Director, hosted a session titled “From Brooklyn Bridge to Capitol Hill: Integrating Services and Advocacy.” This workshop addressed the ways in which we can apply advocacy and service to the work of poverty reduction by engaging parishes and communities in social justice initiatives. Brian Gavin, Director of Development and Communications, and Jason Soto, Associate Director of Development, also presented a workshop which was titled “Supercharging Your Corporate Champions” which demonstrated the ways corporate partnerships can benefit local Catholic Charities initiatives. The conference was filled with beneficial advice and tips from other Catholic Charities which we are proud to implement into the strategy at CCBQ.
