The four Catholic Charities Community Centers provide a wide array of services to support families, and are the gateway to Charities' services throughout Brooklyn and Queens. Serving the entire diocese, they are located at:

Catholic Charities Aging programs provide nutritional, educational, recreational, health promotional, social service and intergenerational programs. Hot lunch served at our programs. Our case management services to the homebound elderly include case assistance, information and referral, assessment for EISEP home care, Meals on Wheels, transportation, supportive counseling, caregiver support groups, advocacy, entitlement, counseling and intergenerational programs. Catholic Charities also offers respite and group activity programs for Alzheimer and related dementia clients and their caregivers. In addition, training, workshops, case management, information and referral services and supportive clients is provided. Participants must be age 60 and over and be diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia.

Catholic Charities serves people with developmental disabilities in Brooklyn & Queens who live at home with their families or caregivers. Among the services we provide to the developmentally disabled are, comprehensive case management, home and community services waivers and family support case management. We also provide residences for developmentally disabled adults offering 24 hour supervision, daily skills training, recreation and a variety of psychological, social and clinical services, such as, medical and speech.

Our Daycare and Head Start centers conduct a family oriented, child development program. Services are offered for children 2 years 9 months through 6 years of age, five days a week from 8am to 6pm. Eligibility: ACD eligibility requirements. ACD REQUIREMENTS: Reasons for care include: protective/preventive, employment, vocational training, looking for work, illness/ incapacitation.

Among the mental health services we provide are intensive training in daily living skills, behavior intervention, counseling, crisis and case management, socialization, discharge planning, medication management and support. The goals of our prevention programs are to strengthen family relationships to reduce the incidence of abuse and neglect. We prevent placement of children into foster care and reunite children with families.

Approaches to community organizing include reaching out to various community , parish and neighborhood organizations to work together identifying community needs and developing responses. ESL classes, citizenship drives, job fairs, health fairs and teen centers.

The Catholic Youth Organization organizes parish-based sports and activities for boys and girls, ages 8 to 20 in Brooklyn & Queens. Activities include: basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, swimming, track and volleyball. The season runs from September through June.

Catholic Charities Pastoral Services is active in the following areas:

Deafness services Our TTY number is 718-722-6226.

  • Coordination of American Sign Language (A.S.L.) Interpreter Services for parishes of the Diocese;
  • Education and mentoring for Church interpreters;
  • Bereavement Ministry;
  • Parish consultation and support;
  • Religious education in schools for the deaf;
  • The Human Service Center for the Deaf;
  • Technical assistance to Catholic Charities staff as well as Diocesan offices related to deafness.

Prison Ministries

  • Community Chaplains Program;
  • Alternatives to Incarceration, Brooklyn & Queens;
  • Information & Referral;
  • Engagement of parishes in evangelization on prison sites;
  • Program development;
  • Liaison between parish and prisoner and/or families.

Pastoral Care of the Sick

  • Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) Certified program for the preparation of Chaplains;
  • Education and training of parish-based Pastoral Workers for home and hospital visitation;
  • Coordination/supervision of Hospital Chaplains;
  • Cluster and parish-based coordination and education related to hospital and nursing home sacramental and pastoral care;
  • Workshops for Diocesan clergy engaged in hospital and nursing home visitation;
  • Advocacy with hospitals and nursing homes for pastoral care efforts;
  • Diocese-wide education and gathering of ministers of the sick and pastoral coordinators;
  • Regular engagement of regional parish staff for input and exchange of ideas.;
  • Coordination of Diocesan planning efforts;
  • Dissemination of updated information related to pastoral care of the sick;
  • Seminars on ethical and moral issues facing Chaplains and pastoral care workers.

The Catholic Charities Progress of Peoples Corporation offers affordable housing for eligible individuals, families, elderly with low incomes and others in need of supportive housing.

Senior Housing: The Catholic Charities' Progress of Peoples Corporation offers federally subsidized independent living for low income seniors (62+) and mobility impaired adults. To express an interest in Senior Housing, submit your request in writing to:

Supportive Housing: The Catholic Charities' Progress of Peoples Corporation provide permanent, affordable, independent housing to displaced individuals at least 18 years of age, and one program specializes in serving persons 55 years and over. An on site rehabilitation program is also available, which provides case management, vocational rehabilitation, art therapy and community based activities as well as psychiatric services. Eligibility: Must be low-income, single-persons over the age of 18; NYNY agreement eligibility for the rehab program; admission based upon interview and entitlement review.

Free confidential services include: emotional support, counseling, guidance, information and referral; referrals for short-term emergency housing; help with medical care through St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers; advocacy for public benefits; 24 hour emergency consultation.

Family Home Care Services

Family Home Care Services of Brooklyn & Queens is an affiliate of Catholic Charities which provides at-home care to over 2,500 elderly and disabled clients each year. Services include: Nursing supervision and Personal Care Aide. A Registered Nurse is available for supervision and case service management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Contact: 718-832-0550.
