In support of the Caritas Center for Montessori training at Catholic
Charities Brooklyn & Queens, the Heights Chateau will be sponsoring
a Winetasting event at St. Francis College, 182 Remsen Street
in Brooklyn Heights, on Thursday, March 08, 2007, from 6:00 p.m.
to 9:00 p.m. The night will feature 45 wines from around the world,
special tasting of olive oils, as well as live jazz and classical
music. Hors d’oeuvres, including fruits and cheeses, will
be served. For ticket information and to pre-register, please

All proceeds from the Winetasting sponsored by the Heights Chateau
will go to support the Caritas Center at Catholic Charities Brooklyn
& Queens. Since its inception in 1996, the Caritas Center
has been vital to the long-standing quality of Catholic Charities
early childhood services. Enhancing the cultivation of children’s
most crucial years, the Caritas Center provides on-site training
to Catholic Charities early childhood educators throughout Brooklyn
and Queens. This training consists of a two-year program, with
continued education upon graduation, in accordance with the Montessori
Method and National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC) guidelines. The first year is a 34-week academic year,
and in the second year trainees must partake in an internship.
The program also oversees all in-service training needs for early
childhood and conducts staff development workshops on such topics
as: curriculum development, government regulations, positive guidance,
disabilities, and child abuse.
Currently, Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens serves over
16,000 children and their families in Head Start and day care
centers, in-school and after-school programs, sports, and community
centers. Catholic Charities has been providing quality social
services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens for over
100 years. The agency sponsors 170 programs and services for children
and youth, adults and seniors, the developmentally disabled, the
mentally ill and the isolated, and provides 3,000 units of affordable
housing.
