CATHOLIC CHARITIES BROOKLYN & QUEENS ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/ CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

On May 2, 2002, the Board of Trustees of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Brooklyn & Queens unanimously voted to appoint Robert L. Siebel as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities, effective November 4, 2002. Earlier this year, Thomas A. DeStefano who has served in the position for 23 years had revealed his intention to retire.

Mr. Siebel received his Bachelor of Arts in 1971 from Cathedral College, and a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University in 1976. In 1982, he received a certificate from Columbia University Not-for-Profit Institute and has done graduate work at New York University Graduate School of Public Administration. He serves nationally as a leadership development consultant for community-based organizations. Robert lives in Brooklyn with his wife and son.

Robert Siebel joined the staff of Catholic Charities in 1973 as a mental health aide and in 1981 was appointed as an Area Director. He went on to serve as a Regional Administrator and most recently as the Associate Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer.

Mr. Siebel serves on the Board of Directors of Progress of Peoples Development Corp., Builders for the Family and Youth, the United Services Group and is the President of the Board of Care at Home of the Diocese of Brooklyn Inc. He also serves on the United Way Member Review Panel and for the coordinating committee of the Management and Administration Section of Catholic Charities USA.

Mr. DeStefano remarked, "During these past twenty nine years, Robert Siebel has used his talents and education to serve those in need, to assist the parishes and to work with many in developing a true sense of community. His years of experience at Catholic Charities, his membership on Boards of Directors and his works in the community will serve him well as he assumes his new leadership role as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer.

I go to retirement with great joy and confidence, knowing that Robert, with the support and competence of our dedicated staff, will not only address the challenges that lie ahead, but will bring the agency to new heights in reaching out to those in need. I celebrate Robert’s appointment and offer him support and best wishes."
