CATHOLIC CHARITIES BROOKLYN & QUEENS
COLIN-NEWELL HEAD START CENTER
DEDICATION CEREMONY
For their lifetime commitment to children and families, the Catholic
Charities Brooklyn & Queens Colin-Newell Head Start Center
will be dedicated in honor of Sr. Lorna Colin, C.S.J. and Sr.
Kathleen Newell, B.V.M. The ceremony will be held on Friday, April
30, 2004, 10:30 AM, at the Colin-Newell Head Start Center, 161-06
89th Avenue, Jamaica, Queens.
As Special Assistants to the Executive Director for Early Child
Development at Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens, Sr. Lorna
and Sr. Kathleen have been instrumental in providing safe, reliable
early childhood care and Head Start programs for low-income families
for more than 35 years. They helped create Builders For Family
and Youth (BFFY), an affiliate of Catholic Charities Brooklyn
& Queens, which offers quality childcare programs and education
as well as services that provide strong family support. In addition,
they have spearheaded the Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens
Caritas Training Center, which provides staff the opportunity
to successfully complete all requirements of the Montessori Training
Program for early childcare and education. Recently, Sr. Lorna
and Sr. Kathleen were awarded the Catholic Charities USA 2002
Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Award for their commitment and leadership
in service to children and families.
The Colin-Newell Head Start Center dedication ceremony is being
held in partnership with the City of New York Administration for
Children’s Services and the Sisters of St. Dominic, Amityville,
New York.
