BISHOP JOSEPH M. SULLIVAN
TO ADVOCATE FOR
AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN WILLIAMSBURG, BKLYN
WHO: More than 500 people, including government
officials and local leaders, will join Brooklyn Bishop Joseph
M. Sullivan at a special meeting to address the potential rezoning
of the Greenpoint/Williamsburg waterfront. More than 18 Roman
Catholic churches will be represented as the community unites
to fight what it believes will be the end of affordable housing
in these neighborhoods.
WHEN: Thursday, April 22nd at 7:00 PM
WHERE: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Auditorium
1-23 Havemeyer Street, Brooklyn
(between North 8th and North 9th Streets)
WHY: Bishop Sullivan is advocating for local
residents who are concerned about the city’s plan to rezone
the waterfront and inland areas of Williamsburg and Greenpoint
to erect luxury housing. Currently, middle and low-income families
and seniors are being displaced due to gentrification and escalating
housing costs. The Clergy Cluster, a committee of local clergy
representing 12,000 people, would like officials to combine development
with affordable housing to preserve the neighborhoods.
This event is sponsored by: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church; St.
Cecilia Church; St. Anthony – St. Alphonsus Parish; St.
